Our Group, which is in its 30th year and has nearly 600 members, organises a full programme of walks including weekend, mid-week and, in the summer, evening walks. We meet locally then share cars. Walks range from 4 miles at leisurely pace to more energetic walks up to 15 miles, so there is something for everyone. We walk mainly in Essex but also go to Kent, Surrey and Suffolk, with an annual coach walk in France. We also organise social activities.

Stort Valley Group printable Programme
The Stort Valley Group of The Ramblers was formed in 1995, the current membership is about 80 strong. The group serves Harlow Town and the nearby towns and villages situated in the Stort Valley bordering Essex with Hertfordshire.
Our programme consists of regular Sunday walks throughout the year ranging between 8-12 miles in distance. During high summer we organize mid-week evening walks of approx. 5 miles or two hours walking. In addition we have the occasional weekend away. The group has also enjoyed a full week away, each year in July, walking some of the well-known long distance paths.
The Sunday walks meeting point in Harlow is in the car park, near The Greyhound Pub, School Lane, Harlow, (grid ref TL451109). We leave at 9.30 a.m. unless stated otherwise. Car sharing is available.

Maldon is a small, still active port situated at the mouth of the River Blackwater, 13 miles east of Chelmsford. It is also a historic market town with a very long history.
The Dengie peninusula lies betwen the estuaries of the Crouch and Blackwater. It includes the largest, continuous area of tidal and saltmarsh in Essex, which is home to rare coastal flora. Features of the Dengie enjoyed by walkers include solitude and many miles of seawall, from which can be seen the odd seal, egrets, many heron and the occassional adder sunning itself. There is some civilisation, however, with welcoming pubs selling good food and local beers
