Enjoy the countryside with your local Ramblers' group. What better way is there to get to know your own area than to walk in the local countryside?

If you are a walker already, you'll know that there is nothing more pleasant than getting out into the fresh air, relaxing, walking with like-minded friends and looking at the ever-changing countryside around you in all seasons.

If you enjoy walking or want to take it up, why not join the South East Essex Ramblers, who invite you, young or old, new or experienced walkers, to come along on your own or with friends, and join us on a few walks. For details of our Group and a welcome pack, please apply to; Publicity, tel; 01702 206424 or email seeramblers@gmail.com

Our Group organises a full programme of walks including weekend, mid-week and in the summer, evening rambles. We meet locally then share cars driving to the start of the walks, which range from about 4 miles at a leisurely pace to more energetic walks up to 15 miles, so there is something for everyone.

We walk mainly in Essex but also go to Kent, Surrey and Suffolk.

Each year we run a coach ramble to France, arrange various other trips visiting places of interest and organise social activities.

Maldon is an ancient but still active port situated where the Rivers Blackwater and Chelmer flow into the Blackwater Estuary. The Dengie peninsula lies between the estuaries of the Crouch and Blackwater. It includes the largest, continuous area of tidal and saltmarsh in Essex, which is home to rare coastal flora and some of the best bird watching in England. Features of the Dengie enjoyed by walkers include solitude and many miles of seawall, from which can be seen thousands of over wintering geese and rare Marsh Harriers. There is some civilisation, however, with welcoming pubs selling good food and local beers
