Welcome to the Inner London Area Ramblers.

In our area are seven walking groups - Hammersmith Fulham and Wandsworth, Westminster Chelsea and Kensington, Southbank, Blackheath, North east London, Hampstead and the Metropolitan Walkers.

Although London may not seem like an obvious location for walkers, there are over 5,000 Ramblers members living here, making Inner London one of the most populous areas for walkers to live in the UK.

The Thames Path, which runs through our Area, is the most walked path in the country!

As well as walking in our own area, including in the very heart of London, we also enjoy excursions in much of South East England, with groups regularly making trips to the Chilterns, South Downs, South Coast, Kent, Essex, Surrey, Hertfordshire, as well as further afield.

Almost all the walks put on by the groups are accessible by public transport, be it mainline train or tube.

The walks range in length from 2 to 20 miles, with most averaging around 8 to 10 miles. They mainly take place at weekends, when there are usually at least a dozen walks to chose from across the Area's groups.

Some groups also organise evening strolls, and the Inner London Area itself puts on fortnightly strolls on Saturdays throughout the year and regular canal walks on summer evenings.

You are very welcome to attend our walks. Further information on our groups and a list of their next few walks are listed below.

The Blackheath Group is a walking group who hope to provide rambling opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. We aim to be as inclusive as possible. We would like to encourage people of different ethnic minorities and cultures to join us in our walks.
Whenever possible we try to offer a walk on each Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday. We also offer occasional choices of walks, summer evening walks (run by Mike Biggs of South Bank Group) and walking breaks away, usually at least one week or long weekend away a year. Our shortest walks are less than five miles and our longest walks might exceed 20 miles but most of our walks are within the range 8-16 miles.

We are the Hammersmith, Fulham & Wandsworth Group of the Ramblers' Association. As our name suggests, most of our members live in either the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, or the London Borough of Wandsworth.
Most of our walks are four to 15 miles long. Although as a Group we are urban-based, we do take the opportunity to use public transport to get into the countryside for walking. However, we do have many walks within London - along the Thames and canals, London parks, etc.

Capital Walkers was set up by people who have walked on their own and with other groups (mostly the Metropolitan Walkers) for many years; Londoners who love getting out into the countryside and interesting urban and suburban spaces, to learn more about the world, and to share that pleasure with others.

We like to walk and laugh and think and sit in open spaces and cosy pubs. You don't need to be a member to come on our walks. Just turn up at the appointed time and place. Feel free to bring friends.

All walks are public transport accessible.

We’re primarily aimed at people aged between their late 30’s and early 50’s but there’s no such thing as too old (as long as you can walk) or too young (as long as you’re old enough to vote). We welcome those new to walking or who just want to try it out in a group, as well as those who have been enjoying it for years.
